Perfume, or “extrait de parfum” to be precise, is the queen of fragrances – compared to other scented waters, it contains the highest concentration of fragrances, i.e. that very special combination of essential oils, plant extracts, resins or their synthetic counterparts. Eau de parfum is less concentrated, and eau de toilette is even lighter. In the past, men tended to be given woody, leathery and citrusy notes, while women were treated to sweet and powdery ones.
